The airport walk-through metal detector is a device that uses electromagnetic induction to detect the presence of metallic objects on a person's body. The device works by generating an oscillating magnetic field and sending it through the person who is passing through. Any metal objects, such as guns and knives, will disrupt the alternating current, which can then be detected by an appropriate receiver (usually a pair of antennas).
The first step is to put your hands up and stand still. Then, you will be asked to put your hands down and stand still for about 15 seconds. After this, you will be asked to walk through the metal detector. If there are no alarms, you are free to go.
The airport walk-through metal detector is designed to detect any weapons that you may be carrying.
For your safety, please remove all jewelry, watches, and other objects that contain metal. You will be asked to walk through the metal detector and place your belongings on a conveyor belt.
If you have any questions about the process, please ask a TSA agent for assistance.
